December 2016

Hi, can you believe that its December already? only a couple of weeks to go until the big day and a reflection on 2016… I can't believe thats its been nearly 12 months since I decided that each month I would make an ATC based on the Tando Creative monthly colour palettes and now I have 12, different, but, similar ATC's… I always thought I didn't have my own style, but, its become apparent that I do…

So, Tando's December colours are:-

and here is my last ATC for 2016:-

The base had DecoArt fluid acrylics added and once dry was over stamped using a grey ink and a Merry Christmas text stamp.  Three christmas ornaments were painted and some glitter glue added along with some bling…some text finished off the piece.

…..and here are my 12 ATC's of 2016:-

So, there they are my 12 ATC's of 2016…. check out the Tando Creative blog this week for some more colour based projects.

Tando Stencil week….

Hello and welcome to my blog, Kraftypieces, a platform to share with you my creations, as they may be!
Today its my turn to share my "recipe" over on the Tando blog.

The "recipe" is:-

Here is my Christmas card:-

My white 6 x 6 inch card base was masked off around the edges and then using a pale blue distress ink the edges where inked blending into the middle.  I then used the Tando Creative Snowflake mask and the same distress ink.  Andy Skinners stamp set, toxic, was then stamped over the base using the same ink.  The masking notes were then removed.  Three snowflakes from the grab bag were painted white and then a layer of distress stickles added.  A further piece of inked card was stamped with my second stamp, an old Happy Christmas stamp, matted onto black cardstock and adhered.

One card down daren't count how many more to make lol

Pop on over to the Tando Creative blog where all week recipes have been used to create some stunning pieces.

Nathalie Kalbach and Andy Skinner

Hello, hasn't it turned cold all of a sudden, shouldn't moan really as we've had a lovely summer.

This week over on the Tando Creative blog they are featuring two very talented designers, Andy Skinner and Nathalie Kalbach…I couldn't decided which one to do, so decided to create two pieces:-

First up, Andy Skinner…. whenever I see anything of Andy Skinner the "rust" effect is always dominant so that had to be my base….my substrate was the mixed media board by Tando and then I added some DecoArt fluid acrylics and then using the new typeface stencil I used the bumped technique to create my background…

I then used the same paint and taking the industrial elements kit painted some elements and added to my base to create this:-

and, onto my Nathalie piece… once again I used a mixed media board and the acrylic paints, once dry I used the kaffee klatsch stamp set and embossed with aged gold frantage embossing powder…

I painted some tissue paper and once dry pieced together elements from the Fashion Dame stamp set…

This is my finished piece:-

Gorgeous aren't they?

I do start off with the same, or similar colours but everything ends up darker!! lol - so for my spooky ATC… I've added decoArt fluid acrylics and then stencilled over the top with black paint and cobweb 2 mask…. this was then outlined in white pen…some washi tape was added before adding my bat and painted mini pumpkins which have been over stamped using the Andy Skinner industrial stamp (Stampendous)… doodling finished it all off.

Mixology kit

Hi, another Monday, where is time going?

This week over on the Tando blog we are showcasing the Mixology kits…what is Mixology? Mixology is a retreat run by Tando along with DecoArt and stampendous - it is held twice a year and there are specific projects each time using Tando kits, each one designed for the weekend.

Today I'm using the fabulous journal taught by Kate Crane at the April 2016 class…

Here is my front cover…

The base has been painted with DecoArt fluid acrylic paints in a Kate Crane style and doodling to match…. using the sequin waste mask some stencilling was added using paints.

More pages will follow in the following months as I intend to use this on my travels later on in the year.

Hi, can you believe that its August already, one clear soul on Facebook recently put up how many Fridays til Christmas!! ummm say no more!!

As its the first Monday of the month its a new colour theme over on the Tando blog.  So, that means another ATC from me, I'm getting a lovely selection of ATC's now and really enjoy working on the smaller size again… its nice to step back sometimes isn't it…

Here is the colour theme for August….

vibrant this month isn't it..

so, here is my August ATC:-

The base is a tando ATC which was given a coat of gesso, once dry I then added some DecoArt fluid acrylic paint… using the same colours I stencilled the brick and distressed sequin mini masks.  I then added some stamping in black paint using Nathalie Kalbach Marks stamp set - these then had some white pen doodled on it… the butterfly was painted and then some Stampendous spoonful in pixie dust was added…black paint was added to the edges…

However,

Did you see Kate Crane on Hochanda using the Tando substrates and the DecoArt fluid acrylics? I managed to see all of the shows and was so inspired that whilst the paints were out I also made:-

Butterflies….

…is this weeks theme over on the Tando blog

Here is my butterfly tag:-

The base of my long Tando tag was given a coat of gesso before adding various decoArt media fluid acrylics.  I then stamped the gorgeous Nathalie Kalbach "kaffee klatsch" rubber stamp set… various doodling and handwritten doodles finished off the base…. the butterflies come from the grab bag - the large butterfly was given a covering of Stampendous "spoonful kit" in Fairy dust, the other two butterflies were given a coat of Frantage embossing enamels, these kits are excellent value as you get 5 pots full of different coloured enamels… for my butterflies I've used shabby pink and shabby blue….

Use Tando Packaging...

As with all products Tando has some very useful packaging that can be recycled.  Most of the hanging kits, and minis, come with a stiff card backing sheet and the stencils all come with lovely black card all of which can be very useful in your projects.

This week over on the Tando blog the challenge is to use the packing in our pieces….

Here is my offering:-

The base is from a hanging kit, I cut off the tab and gave the backing sheet a coat of gesso.  Once dry I added some Paperartsy acrylic paint… I then stencilled mini mask clocks using white paint, using the same base colours I stencilled thro' the sequin waste stencil…. I also added some black paint thro the Andy Skinner Have your say stencil.  I added doodling with black and white pens and some washi tape to finish off my background.  I then wrote the quote on some scrap card, inked the edges and then matted onto the black card from the stencil packs… this was then adhered to the background.

Spray inks...

Today sees a new challenge over on the Tando Creative blog, it also sees my son's birthday! grief 24 today where on earth have those years gone????? anyway, its my turn over on the Tando blog today and I've created this art journal page:-

The base is my large dylusions art journal.  I sprayed some very old dylusion ink sprays, one of which is now empty!! lol.  Once these had dried I got the letters mask and the Have your say mask from Tando and spritzed water thro' them trying to lift the ink, it did work in places.  I then used DecoArt media fluid acrylic paint in carbon black to add letters from both masks.  I then stamped using a Stampendous Nathalie Kalbach Marks set and black ink.  I then doodled with white ink.  Three butterflies from the grab bag were painted with the black ink and once dried spritzed with glimmer mists, the mica just sits on the black paint giving them a shimmer.  Hand written doodles and washi tape finish off the page.

Don't forget to pop on over to the Tando blog and see what some of the other DT members have created using spray inks.

Colour post - Tando Creative

Hi, its my turn to post over on the Tando Creative blog today.

This week the theme is one of our monthly colour choices and for June the colour ways are:-

not the kind of colours I usually use, but, hey thats the whole point of being challenged!

As with all the colour weeks this week its ATC time:-

To my tando creative ATC  base I added some scraps of paper before adding some fresco paint…I then added paperartsy paints in prawn, orchid, antarctic, cheesecake and butternut…these colours were also used to stencil thro' the mini stencils flourish and distressed sequins.  Texture paste was used on the mini stencil brick at the bottom of the atc… doodling and further paint effects were then added along with a saying from a paperartsy plate of stamps.

The winner for May is announced over on the blog today along with the announcement that the challenge is now finished.  A big Thank you to all that participated during the years that the challenge ran and a massive congratulations to all the winners….

Do pop on over to the blog to see what some of the other DT members have made using the June colours.

Things with wings

Hi, its my turn to post over on the Tando Creative blog today, and this weeks theme is:-

Things with wings

here is my piece:-

The base is one of the long tags which had texture paste added thro' the letters mask.  Once dry the tag was given a coating of black carbon paint.  I then sanded this back before adding sprays, treasure gold…I then added some aged copper embossing enamels - this is one from my stash that I'd had for some time, but, you can now purchase these products from the tando website.  The butterflies, from the mini range, were painted and then some texture paste added, this was then heated and then sprayed… an embossed stamped saying finished it off.

Don't forget that you can join in with the themes over on the Tando creative blog and for one lucky person there is a great prize up for grabs - pop on over to the blog and check it out…

The heart, wings and crown were all given a layer of Wendy Veechi crackle texture paste and once dry given a coating of DecoArt media fluid acrylics…… the background was also given a mix of colours…. create was handwritten on the top to finish it off.

White space - Paperartsy

Hi, Happy May Day!

I've been inspired over on the Paperartsy blog for the last fortnight with the fabulous white space projects and today I had some time to create and have made this card:-

its an unusual size card for me as I usually go for square cards, and its slightly bigger at 5" x 7" but it needed to be to accommodate the flowers from Paperartsy Eclectica plate EKC01 - the flowers were stamped onto smoothy cardstock and coloured using inktense pencils, some white doodling was added afterwards.  The butterly is from the same plate.  I stencilled some distress ink very lightly in the back ground and then attached the flowers.

Tando - Spring has sprung

Spring is sprung is this weeks theme over on the Tando Creative blog - I don't know where you are in the country, but, its flipping cold here! don't know about Spring has sprung more like Winter is back!

So, in order to try and feel more spring like I've made this rather bright journal page.

The base is my large art journal.  I started the background by applying Ranger texture paste in opaque matte (wow I like this! lovely and thick, dries quickly and with the ability to be smooth or add peaks, my new fav!) thro' the mini distress diamond mask - once dry I added some DecoArt fluid acrylic paints…. various doodling and stencilling was then added to the page using paint and inks… I then added some gold texture paste thro' the mini distress sequin waste stencil….. a couple of Tando mini butterflies were also painted using the DecoArt colours.  Using some distress crayons I created a masterboard and then stamped the flowers from the Paperartsy plate EKC0, I cut these out and then gave them, and the butterflies, a coating of Distress collage medium - crazing…a stamped saying from another paperartsy plate, some washi tape and a bit of prima bling finished off the page.

Don't forget there is still time to join in with this months challenge over on the Tando blog…hope to see you there.

For the first time ever I have combined both of my DT responsibilities for this week, time has just been against me  - please see the Tando Creative blog and also Papermaze Scrap, paper and scissors...

Watercolour technique week...

Hi, its my turn to post over on the Tando blog today.

A new thing for 2016 was to have a regular technique week.  Tando products are so versatile and this give us, as a DT, the opportunity to show how our techniques work with various products.

The technique this week is watercolour.  I do love my watercolour pencils, but, obviously they weren't going to be any good on naked chipboard - but, I did have a lovely travel set of watercolours which hadn't seen the light of day - so, I decided to use those and made this:-

The base is one of the long tags, which are a recent Tando release.  I gessoed the base and then added some acrylic paint, once dry I added some stencilling and doodling to my background.  I then stamped my flowers and heat embossed with white embossing powder (which is something I took from a recent workshop at Birds in the Barn with Kay Carley).  I then added some white watercolour paint to the petals, once dry I then watercolored them.  The mini butterflies had a layer of white paint and then several different layers of red paint…all just to try and add some depth to the wings.  The butterflies were then doodled before a little white pen shading was added.

Pop on over to the Tando this week for some more watercolour projects.

I then added some heavy acrylic paints by Dana Wakely… once this was dry I stamped a text stamp with white paint and then the circle from the first paperartsy/wunderlust plate, some doodling was also added. Texture paste week...

Hi, can you believe that its the 7th March already? it has got so cold the last couple of days and so it was lovely to get lost in my journal using all my lovely Tando products and paint and stay in doors in the warm..

I must admit that I did make a mistake, I thought the theme this week was texture…umm forgot the paste bit, but, I did use texture paste and loads of texture in this page…

It was so hard to photograph my large dylusions journal and show all the texture and colour… I started off by adding my paint…I then added a clear gesso thro' the distressed diamond mask…I also added some torn script paper…I then stencilled paint thro' the sequin waste mask…I used the same paint colours to paint the chipboard elements..I added some washi tape to the sides and some doodling… the gold was texture paste…. for the first time, I'm really happy with my handwriting on this page, I didn't think about it and just went for it…

Tando products used:-

Don't forget to pop on over to the Tando Creative blog during the week for some more texture paste pieces…and also, don't forget the challenge, there are prizes up for grabs too… see you there!

Andy Skinner - Bold and Bright

Hi, the DecoArt guru, Andy Skinner, is running a challenge over on his blog and the theme is Bold and Bright…here is my entry…

My base is a 5"x 7" canvas board, to which I added DecoArt media fluid acrylics in:-
quinacridone violet, cobalt turquoise blue and buff using the tinting base as I went…I then added some yellow/green mister… I then added texture paste thro'' the burning rubber stencil, adding gold embossing powder before it dried - once the texture paste had set I then added heat to melt the powder (I must admit I did get a bit impatient and the tracks are bubbled, but, I like it that way)… buff media fluid acrylic was then painted thro' the have your say mask…further doodling was added to the base.  Once everything was dry I painted media fluid acrylic in carbon black thro' the children stencil…a couple of pieces of washi tape was then added to made a base for the children…further doodling finished it off…
