Tando - Spring has sprung

Spring is sprung is this weeks theme over on the Tando Creative blog - I don't know where you are in the country, but, its flipping cold here! don't know about Spring has sprung more like Winter is back!

So, in order to try and feel more spring like I've made this rather bright journal page.

The base is my large art journal.  I started the background by applying Ranger texture paste in opaque matte (wow I like this! lovely and thick, dries quickly and with the ability to be smooth or add peaks, my new fav!) thro' the mini distress diamond mask - once dry I added some DecoArt fluid acrylic paints…. various doodling and stencilling was then added to the page using paint and inks… I then added some gold texture paste thro' the mini distress sequin waste stencil….. a couple of Tando mini butterflies were also painted using the DecoArt colours.  Using some distress crayons I created a masterboard and then stamped the flowers from the Paperartsy plate EKC0, I cut these out and then gave them, and the butterflies, a coating of Distress collage medium - crazing…a stamped saying from another paperartsy plate, some washi tape and a bit of prima bling finished off the page.

Don't forget there is still time to join in with this months challenge over on the Tando blog…hope to see you there.

For the first time ever I have combined both of my DT responsibilities for this week, time has just been against me  - please see the Tando Creative blog and also Papermaze Scrap, paper and scissors...

Watercolour technique week...

Hi, its my turn to post over on the Tando blog today.

A new thing for 2016 was to have a regular technique week.  Tando products are so versatile and this give us, as a DT, the opportunity to show how our techniques work with various products.

The technique this week is watercolour.  I do love my watercolour pencils, but, obviously they weren't going to be any good on naked chipboard - but, I did have a lovely travel set of watercolours which hadn't seen the light of day - so, I decided to use those and made this:-

The base is one of the long tags, which are a recent Tando release.  I gessoed the base and then added some acrylic paint, once dry I added some stencilling and doodling to my background.  I then stamped my flowers and heat embossed with white embossing powder (which is something I took from a recent workshop at Birds in the Barn with Kay Carley).  I then added some white watercolour paint to the petals, once dry I then watercolored them.  The mini butterflies had a layer of white paint and then several different layers of red paint…all just to try and add some depth to the wings.  The butterflies were then doodled before a little white pen shading was added.

Pop on over to the Tando this week for some more watercolour projects.

Colour week

Hi, as its the first week of the month its the colour week over on the Tando creative blog.

This is Aprils colour palette:-

just right for this time of the year, right?

I have made this ATC - my 2016 ATC's are all looking really good…

I painted paperartsy fresco paints to the base and then doodled using stencils and lids and some stamping… the same paints were used to paint two mini butterflies which were then doodled with a white pen.  The stamp is by Tim Holtz.

The March winner is announced on the blog today - don't forget that the challenge is open to everyone for every week topic.

a recipe….

and not for cooking either!! lol is the theme this week over on the Tando Creative blog…and it is:-

1 x stencil
2 x stamps
3 x flowers

Here is my piece:-

The base is an insert from the new mini stencil folder…which I added a mini flourish stencil which had grungepaste pushed thro…. I then added some heavy acrylic paints by Dana Wakely… once this was dry I stamped a text stamp with white paint and then the circle from the first paperartsy/wunderlust plate, some doodling was also added. Three mini flowers were painted with the same paints and stamped using the text stamp, these were then doodled.  I added a layer of Tim Holtz  distress collage medium - crazing (the jury is still out on this!) to the back plate and the flowers.

Pop along to the Tando Creative blog to see some more recipes and don't forget that there is still time to join in this months challenge - there are prizes up for grabs!

Happy Easter

Hi, the theme over on the Tando Creative blog this week is:- Happy Easter….and here is my piece:-

The base is a mixed media board which had some paperartsy fresco acrylic paint…I then added some text stamping and stencilling using the same paints.  All of the elements:mini easter eggs, mini rabbits and the daffodil from the grab bag of flowers with stems were all painted with acrylic paints and then doodling added over the top….I cant find the chicks in eggs in the retail shop, but, these had been painted with grey paint and then a covering of DecoArt interference in turquoise added to give the shells a blueish tint….  pop on over to the blog this week for some more Easter pieces.

Texture paste week...

Hi, can you believe that its the 7th March already? it has got so cold the last couple of days and so it was lovely to get lost in my journal using all my lovely Tando products and paint and stay in doors in the warm..

I must admit that I did make a mistake, I thought the theme this week was texture…umm forgot the paste bit, but, I did use texture paste and loads of texture in this page…

It was so hard to photograph my large dylusions journal and show all the texture and colour… I started off by adding my paint…I then added a clear gesso thro' the distressed diamond mask…I also added some torn script paper…I then stencilled paint thro' the sequin waste mask…I used the same paint colours to paint the chipboard elements..I added some washi tape to the sides and some doodling… the gold was texture paste…. for the first time, I'm really happy with my handwriting on this page, I didn't think about it and just went for it…

Tando products used:-

DecoArt products:-

Don't forget to pop on over to the Tando Creative blog during the week for some more texture paste pieces…and also, don't forget the challenge, there are prizes up for grabs too… see you there!

Andy Skinner - Bold and Bright

Hi, the DecoArt guru, Andy Skinner, is running a challenge over on his blog and the theme is Bold and Bright…here is my entry…

My base is a 5"x 7" canvas board, to which I added DecoArt media fluid acrylics in:-
quinacridone violet, cobalt turquoise blue and buff using the tinting base as I went…I then added some yellow/green mister… I then added texture paste thro'' the burning rubber stencil, adding gold embossing powder before it dried - once the texture paste had set I then added heat to melt the powder (I must admit I did get a bit impatient and the tracks are bubbled, but, I like it that way)… buff media fluid acrylic was then painted thro' the have your say mask…further doodling was added to the base.  Once everything was dry I painted media fluid acrylic in carbon black thro' the children stencil…a couple of pieces of washi tape was then added to made a base for the children…further doodling finished it off…
